Das Architectural office for Future Hope And Optimism ist ein interdisziplinäres Netzwerk aus Architekt*innen, Ingenieur*innen, Künstler*innen, Soziologen und Beratungswissenschaftern, die sich auf theoretischer und praktischer Ebene mit optimistischen Zukunftszenarien in der Architektur beschäftigen.
Im Einzelnen und als Kollektiv setzen wir uns für einen absichtlich positiven Umgang mit und innerhalb der architektonischen Disziplin ein.
Zeitgenössische Geschehen und ihre Phänomene werden dabei in einen architektonischen Kontext gesetzt und Architektur in ihrer zwingenden Rolle als politisch und sozial relevantes Medium behandelt.
Transformation
Basis der Auseinandersetzung bildet die Denkart, dass architektonische Systeme dauerhaften Transformationsprozessen unterliegen und sie deshalb nicht nur reaktionsoffen gegenüber anderen (Umwelt-) Systemen sein sollen, sondern die Fähigkeit haben sich selbst zu transformieren - sowohl in der gebauten Praxis als auch innerhalb der Disziplin selbst.
Nachhaltige und Zirkuläre Perspektiven beschäftigen uns ebenso wie das Thema von Diversität in der Architektur oder die Frage wie der Umgang mit Architektur innerhalb organisationaler Kontexte zum besseren befördert werden kann.
Es geht um das interdisziplinäre Erforschen, Erproben und Anwenden von positiven Zukunftszenarien in der Architektur - auf praktischer, theoretischer und organisationaler Ebene und um die schrittweise Annäherung an eine positive Wahrheit.
FHAO wird 2024 von Franziska Heidecker (eingetragene Architektin, AK-Berlin) gegründet. Sie hat Architektur am Kalrsuher Institut für Technologie studiert sowie Beratungswissenschaften (Psy.) an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. Sie ist Mitglied im Torhaus Berlin - das sich für kreative Formen der städtischen Teilhabe und des gemeinsamens Gestaltens einsetzt.
Sie arbeitete in verschiedenen Architekturbüros, darunter in der Schweiz und Süddeutschland bevor sie zuletzt assoziierte Partnerin bei Hütten und Paläste Architekten in Berlin war. Ihre Schwerpunkte sind das zirkuläre Forschen, Bauen und Beraten sowie das Bauen im Bestand. Mit dem Projekt “U-Halle” in Mannheim gewinnt Sie mit Hütten und Paläste den deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis für Architektur 2024. Neben ihrer über 10 jährigen Forschungsarbeit für zirkuläre Bauweisen setzt sich sich ebenso mit den psychologischen und psychohygienischen Aspekten von Arbeitsstrukturen- und Methoden in der architektonischen Praxis auseinander und gründet 2023 das Beratungsformat “Wieder Keine Milch Da!” für Architekten und Ingenieure.
Philipp Eckel ist Gründungspartner von FHAO, Architekt und Musiker. Er hat Architektur am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) sowie an der UPC in Barcelona studiert, wo er sich auf experimentelle Designmethoden und -Strategien an der Schnittstelle zu Musik, Film und Medien spezialisierte. Mit seinem Interesse an transdisziplinären Designpraktiken arbeitete er unter anderem in Chile bei FAR Architekten bevor er 2019 nach Berlin zu Hütten und Paläste Architekten kommt. Dort war er zuletzt der leitende Ausführungsplaner für das Projekt “U-Halle” in Mannheim, die 2023 den Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis für Architektur gewinnt.
In den letzten sechs Jahren hat sich Philipp auf nachhaltiges Bauen, adaptive reuse und die Entwicklung nachhaltiger Designkonzepte konzentriert. 2023 führt es Philipp zurück nach Santiago de Chile, wo er das Büro 'Phil y Belle‘ gründet, die sich für Economy of Means - eine Art ressourcenschonenenden Pragmatismus in der Architektur und damit verbundene experimentelle Designmethoden - sowohl in der Lehre als auch in der Praxis einsetzen. Philipp ist eingetragener Architekt bei der Architektenkammer Berlin.

Contemporary events and their phenomena are placed in an architectural context and architecture is treated in its compelling role as a politically and socially relevant medium.
Transformation
Our common ground revolves around the premise that architecture is built around systems that are subjected to permanent transformation processes. Therefore, they are not only responsive to other (environmental) systems, but have the ability to transform themselves as well - in built practice and within the discipline itself.
Sustainable and circular perspectives concern us in the same way as the topic of diversity in architecture or the question how to achieve improvements in the way we organize and structure the production of architecture in organizational contexts.
It is about having a 360° strategy, an approach consisting of interdisciplinary research, testing and applying positive future scenarios in architecture - on a practical, theoretical and organizational level and thus reaching gradually a more positive future.
FHAO is founded in 2024 by Franziska Heidecker, M.Sc., registered architect in Chamber of Architects, Berlin. She studied architecture at KIT (Karsruher Institute of Technology) and consulting sciences (Psy.) at Humboldt University Berlin. She is a member of Torhaus Berlin - which is committed to creative forms of urban participation and collaborative design.
She worked in various architectural offices, including Switzerland and southern Germany before becoming associate partner at Hütten und Paläste Architekten Berlin.
Her expertise is circular economy in building, research and consulting as well as building in existing contexts. The “U-Halle”, her last project as an associate partner, won the German Sustainability Award for Architecture 2024. In addition to her more than 10 years of research-work into circular construction methods, she deals also with the psychological and psycho-hygienic aspects of work structures and methods within the architectural practice. In 2023 she founded her own consulting format for architects and engineers called “Wieder Keine Milch Da!”.
Philipp Eckel is co-founder of FHAO, architect and musician. He studied architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and at the UPC in Barcelona (M.Sc.), where he specialized in experimental design methods and strategies at the intersection with music, film and media. With his interest in transdisciplinary design practices, he worked in Chile at FAR Architekten, before coming to Hütten und Paläste Architekten in Berlin in 2018. There he was, amongst other things, most recently in charge of the execution design for the “U-Halle” project in Mannheim, which won the German Sustainability Prize for Architecture 2024.
Over the last six years, Philipp has focused on sustainable construction, adaptive reuse and the development of sustainable design concepts. In 2023, Philipp returned to Santiago de Chile, where he founded the office 'Phil y Belle', which is committed to "economy of means" - a kind of resource-saving pragmatism in architecture and its associated experimental design methods - both in academia and in practice. Philipp is registered architect with the Berlin Chamber of Architects.
